Scholarship Opportunities
The Spirit of Grace Church (SGC), formerly known as the River Falls United Methodist Church, has been generously endowed by church members who have, through gifts and memorials, established a variety of scholarship funds that provide financial resources to be awarded to full-time undergraduate, full- or part-time graduate students, and/or a seminary student each year. A variety of other academic situations are permissible and welcomed. Scholarship applications are reviewed by the SGC Scholarship Committee each spring and are awarded in the fall. The requirements for the different SGC scholarships that are available vary according to church membership, academic achievement requirements, and school of attendance. The value of each scholarship will vary from year-to-year according to the returns on the invested funds and the number of qualified applicants. It is the intent of the committee to award scholarships to students who:
1) demonstrate good academic performance,
2) exhibit appropriate behaviors in accordance with the ideals and principles of the SGC,
3) demonstrate participation in and service to the SGC (Spirit of Grace Church) or other United Methodist Church and/or
campus ministry in your college city.

Only one application is needed in order to be considered for all of the possible scholarships; however, only one scholarship is awarded to each selected student.

Application Procedure
1. Applications from students who will be attending an institution of higher learning are welcomed and will be
considered. Examples of such an institution include a college, university, vocational or technical school, graduate
school or seminary. Older adult students may also apply.
2. This application is for one academic school year; a student may re-apply in following years.
3. Applications will become available from the SGC office or website around the beginning of February during the year
of application. Follow the instructions in this application form. It is important that your responses be detailed and
complete in order to help the Scholarship Committee know you better.
Either PRINT out the Application Form and neatly write or print your responses to the requested information in the given
spaces and mail it to the SGC office address,
OR
TYPE your answers into this electronic application and email it to the SGC email address. This option is encouraged and
appreciated.

Do not substantially change the formatting or arrangement of the form.

4. Completed applications must be received at the SGC office by mail or email by May 1, 2024.

A complete application includes:
A. TRANSCRIPT (From the most recently attended academic institution)
B. LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION
C. APPLICATION FORM

D. PHOTO
5. It is your responsibility to check with the SGC office to verify that your Transcript, Letter of Recommendation,
completed Application, and Photo have been received before the deadline.

6. After reviewing completed applications, the Scholarship Committee will contact applicants to set up a follow-up
interview, in person or via Zoom. After the interview, the committee will select and notify the scholarship recipients
by mail and/or email.
7. Scholarship recipients will be invited to a presentation of awards during a Sunday worship service that usually takes
place in August or September. Efforts will be made to find a date that works for all awardees. Recipients are expected
to attend this presentation.
